Hiking

2 set routes are available on the farm, do however feel free to meander to your hearts content

Centre Pivot Amble ( +/- 3.4km)

  • May be muddy in Summer months
  • Leaving the farm along the homestead drive turn left on the main road
  • Turn immediately right onto a farm road – there will be 2 big pine trees on the right
  • Walk down towards the river (may need to take off shoes to cross in the summer months)
  • Follow the right fork once across the stream and head uphill towards the center pivot point
  • From here on keep left wherever possible – making a circular loop back towards the stream

Rensburg’s Loop ( +/- 7.3km)

  • Behind the lookout point climb over the sty and head towards Nchaga Mountain following the electricity wires overhead, after about 1.8km you will reach the homestead of Volkmar & Silke Böhmer
  • At the farmyard follow the road left down the hill, leaving the farmhouse behind you on the right hand side
  • Travel down the road, at the T-Junction turn left
  • 400m along the road turn left, you will have plantations on your right hand side once you have turned
  • Travel along the path always keeping the plantations to your right and open veld to your left
  • This path eventually passes the Lüneburg Butchery & Store, take the main road (about 1km) home

Other Hikes In The Area

The Nchaga Hiking trail

  • This is a daylong hike and not for the faint hearted
  • The trail is overgrown and some “bundu bashing” may be required
  • The spectacular view from the top and the fauna and flora along the way do however make up for the hard work
  • The trail takes you through the Pongola bush a KZN Wildlife Reserve where the rare Samango Monkey is occasionally spotted

The Xhosa Climb

  • This trail is a short steep climb to the top of Xhosa Hill, you are rewarded with a lovely view of the Entombe Mission farm and Station from the top
  • The amble down can be enjoyed by taking the road down past pine plantations at a leisurely pace
  • This walk should take about 3 hours

Historical Events

Informative guided tours can be arranged to view the historical sites, the area has a wealth of anglo boer and zulu war history.

The Lüneburg School hosts a mini-museum which displays a wealth of information from an era gone by.

Microlight Flying

A view from above will definitely give you a great overall impression of the area and it’s wealth of farming activities. Trips depart from the Paulpietersburg airstrip but are of course dependent on good weather conditions.
